Seeing is Believing: The Role of Dental Cameras in Patient Education

As a dental practice, there are always ways of improving service and experience for patients. One of the most recent and significant advancements in dental technology is the implementation of HD cameras, whose integration into dental examinations and procedures opens up a world of possibilities for both dental professionals and patients.

Because examining a patient’s oral cavity can become complicated and cumbersome, the use of a camera can aid in patient comprehension of diagnosis and treatment recommendations.

By why, and how?
Building trust

Using a camera provides the ability to visualize the often intricate and complex findings that take place during a patient’s dental visit. Dental professionals can then explain, and even enlarge, issues in finer detail since the patient is now able to see their mouth through the dentist’s “eyes.” When supported by sufficient explanation, this can help convince patients that a dentist’s recommendation is both responsible and well-informed.

Furthermore, if patients can see issues for themselves – for example, ineffective brushing, teeth crowding, cavity placement, etc. – they become more engaged with the problem, and thus, more engaged with the solution.

This process of “co-diagnosis” can both build patient trust and position your practice as a cutting-edge authority in dental care. It also alleviates any potential suspicion that a dental procedure or treatment is being recommended so the dentists can make more money, rather than for the sole purpose of fixing a patient’s teeth.

What makes equipment effective

To get the most from your equipment, dental professionals should look for lightweight, and ideally wire-free, cameras. If they are accompanied by an effective lighting source, even better.

Admetec specializes in custom-designed loupes, headlamps, and cameras, born from the needs of dental and surgical professionals.

Our latest groundbreaking product, the Flamingo, is a battery-powered combined HD camera and headlight system that provides a wide array of benefits. First and foremost, the Flamingo allows simple, real-time recording applicable to a variety of common scenarios, including instructions for colleagues or classes, explanations to patients and patient files, and promotional purposes. With Admetec’s incorporated propriety software, HD video can be streamed via Wi-Fi to laptops and other screens, and screenshots can be taken and autosaved for real-time documentation.
